J. E. Littlewood made major contributions to the distribution of primes, inequalities, Fourier series, and nonlinear differential equations. His long collaboration with Hardy produced the Hardy–Littlewood conjectures and the circle method, while his work with Paley helped develop modern harmonic analysis.
